The neighbours of my girlfriends parents recently traded in their Cooper S for a beautiful white XE. I am jealous.
The sound is wonderful as well. I love that Jag realizes that some of us still want cars to make noises.

I’m sorry but that first line.

Hahah I couldn’t see any way around it....that was the least confusing way I could think to word it, but yeah, relevant reference

Best looking car in its segment, hands down.

I regularly giggle to myself at the turbo whooshing and whistling noises that were unlocked by my intake. Dunno if it makes any extra power but the noises are worth it.

Am I the only one who is bothered when there is zero apparent effort to make shut-lines and style-lines synergize?
It’s like BLAM! “HERE IS A DOOR!” BOOP! “HERE IS THE OTHER DOOR!” Makes a car go from romantic to appliance at approximately 99.994% the speed of light.

I dunno, I hadn’t really noticed, I still don’t mind it now that you’ve pointed it out. I don’t love it, but I think the lack of ridiculous creasing and general clutter makes up for it.

I want my Subaru to make a bit more sound. Nothing too much, it's just a non-turbo auto, but you can hardly hear the motor unless it's really working hard. I probably won't do anything, but a different intake or exhaust could be fun

I wish it wasn’t so understated....

Honestly a car like that I wouldn’t want to be louder. Actually I’d prefer if my fiancee’s non-turbo CVT Impreza were quieter.
My 335xi has decent sound deadening and I didn’t want to make it overwhelmingly loud. The intake lets more turbo noises through, but there’s also a big sound insulating mat on the underside of the hood.
On the exhaust, I have a catless downpipe but the stock exhaust. I also have the BMW PPK ECU flash which makes some fun burbling noises come out the exhaust when you let off the throttle. So it sounds a little racy and not stock but also still uses the flapper valve in the stock exhaust that shuts the driver side muffler on low loads to avoid drone and generally keep things civilized.
I did these things as part of trying to make a bunch more power and the noises are a fun side effect. Generally for “regular” cars I just want them to be refined and go about their business.

I think my problem is I’m not used to refinement, and it makes me uncomfortable. The Legacy does everything it’s supposed to with no drama, and nearly no noise other than sounding a bit like a sewing machine. My Blazer, which was my daily before the Legacy, there was engine noise that was noticeable all the time. But who knows, maybe I’d hate it if the Legacy made more sound, I mean you’re right it would be weird for that type of car
